"Boschetto" in Italian means a small garden and is the name given to a beautiful garden between Spianada Square and the trench of the old fortress of Corfu with which it borders.
"Boschetto", beautifully arranged with flower beds, fountains, shrubs and many large trees, offers impressive close views of the old fortress and views of the Gulf of Corfu to the north.

This blossoming garden with flowers and plants is rectangular shape and is designed with symmetry that refers to a Renaissance Italian Garden.
A large fountain in the center and two smaller positioned symmetrically on the two ends of the garden and a small playground complement the image in the boost.

The Bosquet has two entrances, the central, on Polytechniou Fighters Street and one smaller on its left side, next to the church of Panagia Mandrakina.
Entering the central entrance, you will see exactly a marble statue that honors the Philhellenic founder of the Ionian Academy, Lord Guilford, the English Philhellen who spent much of his life in Corfu.

To the right and left of the statue there are two same stone semicircular benches, framed by peristyle.
There are other busts and statues of writers and Philhellenes who lived on the island. The busts of important Greek writers Lorentzos Mavilis and Konstantinos Theotokis, who came from Corfu, have also been placed.

At the beginning of the 20th century the Municipality of Corfu used the site for outdoor reception receptions of official foreign visitors.

In 2016, the Bosquet was renamed by a decision of the Municipal Council to a "Durrell Garden", honoring the authors of Lawrence and Gerald Durrell, who literally made Corfu known around the world, especially but in the well -known and internationally translated book by Gerald Durrell " My family and other animals. " Two bronze reliefs of the brothers took their place in the garden.

The garden is ideal for a walk as it has remarkable sea views, views to the old fortress and to the small island of Vidos.

Every day families with their children, young people and students visit "Boschetto".
